Casino Crackdowns

If you were lucky enough to be born with the ability of a calculation machine and at the same time you are a pro in blackjack, tell everybody to watch out! You have a deadly combination under your possession, card counting, which is one of the most “dangerous” ones in the casino world. If a casino manager finds out he has lost large amounts of cash, while you have been tanning under the sun rays of victory, the blames will rain down upon your head. Wonder what would be your nickname? They would probably call you “Cheating card-counting bastard”. Don’t say we didn’t warn you…

Casinos have desperately been trying to address the issue by introducing all sorts of new measures to detect and crack-down on professional blackjack card counters.

The first thing they did was to lower the bar for those included in the casino's detection systems. Now, blackjack players gambling with small sums such as 10$ and 20$ bills need to be careful if they're counting cards due to heightened surveillance. An additional measure some casinos took was to move up the slot on the discard tray by 10 to 15 cards. This resulted in changing to 8 and 9 decks cut per game in double deck games. Even Continuous Shuffling Machines (CSM's) have been introduced as another new tactic to thwart card counters.

So for all of you card counters out there, the picture is looking pretty grim.

Out of concern, we've decided to help out by providing some tactics that will let you know if they're on to you.

You're under suspicion if...

  • The floor supervisor has been surveying the cards, keeping a sharp eye on your game, your interaction with the other players and on your betting patterns.
  • More than one shift boss, floor supervisor, or pit manager is observing your movements, then it means that they will either throw you out, call surveillance on you or take your photograph and pass it on to the other casinos.
  • Several people come up to you and ask your name, it means that they're on to you and want to pass your name on.
  • The floor person pulls out the cards from the discard rack with the purpose of running down the decks, which means they're already after you and have probably taken some surveillance photos as well.
  • The floor supervisor whispers into the dealer's ear, and followed by that they change the way they cut the deck and shuffle the cards.
  • The floor supervisor tells you that you're no longer welcome at the blackjack table, which means that you've been "backed off" and can not play blackjack anymore at that casino.
  • Security pulls you away from the table and tells you that you're no longer welcome at the casino at all under threat of arrest, which means that you've been "barred".
The most important piece of advice we can give you is to remember to keep a low profile, don't get too greedy, and try to make stops at less-popular casinos where the dealers are sloppier and they don't know who you are.
