Online Blackjack News - Hard Total Blackjack Lessons

Blackjack is one of the most popular games in the world mainly due to the fact that unlike other games, with a good amount of skill, you can lower the house edge to 1% or lower. Although the house retains its edge over the long run, a player who know what he is doing, has the patience and the concentration to employ, may just turn that house edge to his favor.

Employing good blackjack strategy, coupled with the long term edge and the payout make this game the only real option for people who want to make a profit off their playing. A good player can keep on winning even if he plays for a long while, so beginners luck is ruled out. There are several ways that you can have a good game of blackjack, even if your hand is unlucky.

Whenever you can, pass on the insurance. A dealer will usually encourage players with a blackjack to take insurance when the dealer turns up an ace on the first card. Although you may be tempted to believe that there are many cards that equal ten, and that the chances of one of those cards coming will be high, then chances are that you will lose. Remember that there are more cards that equal less than ten in a deck as there are cards that equal ten. Insurance is only an even bet if 33.3 percent of the cards in the deck could be ten point values. The only way this is a good percentage bet is if you have been counting the cards and know that there is a large concentration of ten value cards left in the deck.

You should double your bet in three different circumstances. These are when you have a hard total (you have no ace in your hand). If you’re holding a nine and the dealer shows 3-6, when you’re holding a 10 and the dealer is showing anything from 2 to 9, or if you have 11 and the dealer shows 2 through ten.

There are a few scenarios in which you should hit a hard total. When the you are holding one of the totals that are listed above, you will also want to hit any time you have 8 or lower, regardless of what the dealer shows. Hit if you have 12 and the dealer has 2,3, or 7 and above, and if you have 13-16 and the dealer shows 7 and above. And the dealer shows one of the cards that are not included in the double down scenario.

If you are like most blackjack players, then you will most likely adhere to the rule that when you have 16, then you stand. However, in order to lower the house edge,. The magic standing amount is not 16, but 17. If a dealer is showing a 7 or higher, he will beat that 16 almost 80 percent of the time. If you’re holding 13 to 16, only stand if the dealer is showing lower than seven. If you’re holding 12 and the dealer is showing 4 through 6, stand. And stand if you’re holding 17 to 21, no matter what the dealer is showing.
