Online Blackjack News - Televised Blackjack Tourenaments
|
|
Poker has been the most popular game in the casinos, in the online casinos and on television for a while now, leaving all the other games behind. This was due in fact to the popular coverage it received on World Poker Tour on television. Professional poker players have already become celebrities in their own right, with many amateurs having their own pros that they try to emulate into their own game. Sounds like any other sport, right?
Blackjack, too, has always been popular, as it is a simple one to play, and most people understand the basic rules of play. Like Poker, Blackjack is beginning to reach new audiences thanks to the televised coverage of blackjack tournaments. Like everything in television, after the success of World Poker Tour, televised blackjack tournaments are attempting to rival it’s high ratings.
While it is a blessing that such a great game is now beginning to be more popular, there are still some concerns about people mimicking what they see on television. In other words, children, don’t try this at home! Usually mimicking the play of WPT poker players can lead to mixed results as the situation you see on TV is usually very different to what amateurs face every day at the table.
Similarly, before you see a move on a televised blackjack tournament and decide to try it out for yourself, there are several things that you must remember, since tournament blackjack requires a number of different strategies that you just normally wouldn't do when you follow basic strategy playing blackjack in the online casinos.
You will often see blackjack players on television make seemingly erratic and at other times downright absurd, decisions. There are a few reasons for this. The most important reason is that televised blackjack is not played against the dealer, but against another player. The aim is to lose as little as possible in order to stay in the game. The need not make any money in the game, since they are playing for prize money. In contrast, blackjack in the online casinos is played against the dealer. Your goal is simply to beat the dealer and make as much money as you can.
The most important reason is that tournament Blackjack is played against the other players, not against the dealer. The object is to simply avoid elimination by losing less that their opponents. They don't have to make money to win the tournament. All of the plays are made with tournament chips and are dependant on the other players stack sizes and their decisions. In contrast, when you play at the tables your goal is simply to beat the dealer and win money. The other players are irrelevant.
Like professional wrestling, the blackjack you see on television is designed to make for, simply, exciting television, no more, no less. Just as you would never do what you see on WWF to your mother, never try to emulate what you see on blackjack tournaments when playing with your money in the online casinos. That is why there are the professionals, after all.
