Online Blackjack News - Lack of Treatment Facilities Aggravates Canadian Teenagers' Addiction to Blackjack and Other Casino Games
A recent study conducted by the Toronto-based Center for Addiction and Mental Health has shown that young individuals are twice as likely to get addicted to gambling games, such as blackjack and poker, as adult people. John Macdonald, a youth specialist with the center's gambling addiction service, said that his clients were mostly aged between 14 and 24.
Although some teenagers with gambling problems are willing to admit they need treatment, according to Macdonald, such cases are unusual. Robert Williams, a professor with the University of Alberta and Alberta Gaming Research Institute, also stated that young gamblers usually deny having a problem.
In addition, Jeffrey Derevensky, co-director of the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High Risk Behaviours at McGill University, was reported as saying that the unavailability of treatment facilities was what has been aggravating the problem. Macdonald agreed that even universities, which normally target students, lack the necessary equipment to treat young gamblers.
