The year 2005 passed by like a flash of lightning, leaving the year's events as mere memories in our minds. All forms of gambling proved extremely popular last year, constituting a hot topic in many magazines, newspapers and websites. Blackjack, a much-loved casino game, also managed to inspire a number of interesting news stories in 2005. The following is a summary of the top blackjack stories of last year.
January: Blackjack players compete in the World Series of Blackjack.
February: The Choctaw Casino, located in Oklahoma, launches blackjack for the first time. About 500 people come to the casino to play this newly-added game
March: Playtech, a leading gaming software developer, adds Blackjack Surrender to its game portfolio.
April: The Hispanic community is brought into the world of blackjack at the Plaza Hotel and Casino, thanks to a project designed to bring in more Spanish-speaking blackjack dealers and Hispanic customers.
May: The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino integrates new casino chips using enhanced RFID technology at blackjack tables.
June: watAgame, a Danish publisher & developer of internet mobile games, launches Badaz Blackjack as part of the Era of Eidolon series.
July: Former blackjack dealer Mark Brown resigns from his post as manager of Donald Trump's three Atlantic City casinos.
August: Celebrity Blackjack Interactive is nominated for the interactive TV Emmy award for 2005.
September: A British backpacker traveling in Malaysia is duped into a high-stakes blackjack game with a group of mobsters who force him at gunpoint to telephone his parents, beckoning them to wire cash. Police intervene and the globetrotter is sent home safely.
October: A new rule is passed in the UK, allowing casino patrons to play blackjack and other games immediately upon registering instead of having to wait 24 hours.
November: Famous online casino site PartyGaming announces the addition of blackjack to its poker room, PartyPoker.com.
December: A blackjack expert is sued by a New Mexico Sikh who was banned from a blackjack seminar.
