Online Blackjack News - Online Blackjack Advertisements in Breach of Australian e-Gambling Law
Australian e-gambling laws dictate that no gambling will be advertised on internet sites that get most of their users from Australia itself. According to the Interactive Gambling Act, no online casino or casino games, such as blackjack and craps, are to be advertised on Australian sites. The maximum penalty for breaking this law is AU$1.1M for corporations and AU$220K for individuals, per each advertising day.
Now, it appears that search engines such as Google Australia, Web Wombat and more, are being investigated regarding a possible breach of the e-gambling law. When a website that targets Australian users advertises online gambling services (for example – blackjack, roulette...), it constitutes a breach in the law. It doesn't matter where the online gambling site which is located – what matters is the publicity in Australia.
So far, no search portal has been prosecuted on charges of breaking e-gambling law, and prosecution seems somewhat unlikely. In the meantime, Debbie Frost, Google spokesperson, was quoted as saying that Google has no comment on this issue.
