Online Blackjack News - Corruption involving Blackjack table was not enough to blemish the Mayor’s reputation
Yesterday, the Mexicos City’s mayor, Andres Manuel Lopez, retired from his post, occupied for the last five years, waving to the cheering crowd. The 51 year-old widower has presented himself for years as a humble man traveling across the city in a shabby car and residing in a far from fancy apartment. His job has pushed him into the spotlight and made him one of the potent leaders among the candidates to the 2006 presidency.
The recent accusations on corruption and money laundering, where Lopez’s finance secretary was captured on the video tape gambling away possibly stolen money at Las Vegas blackjack tables, were miraculously shaken off. Mexico masses have also expressed their grave dissatisfaction with the way he handled the soaring misdemeanors in the city. Still, this was not enough to blemish Lopez’s reputation and abate his political power. Lopez has tuned his mayorship as a pad for presidency, planning to win the nomination as a member of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party.
When still on duty, he has tackled the city’s traffic and social plights, alleviating the urban poverty, by lavishly granting scholarships and stipends for disabled. The critics, however, blame him for superfluous squander of the public’s money to enact his economic programs at all costs and ultimately wedging in the unnecessary debts.
