Online Blackjack News - What is the “monkey” in Blackjack?

In a game of blackjack, or baccarat there is a special term used when someone needs a face card. This is usually referred to as “monkey.” Books and magazines do not provide a satisfying explanation for that one, providing only the formal meaning. But what is the origin of the “monkey term”?
Frank Scobkete, the number one casino gaming best selling author explains the term “monkey” in the following manner: it refers, he says to something which unwittingly and rather promptly may reverse the situation in the game. Players calling for a face card “monkey” in blackjack are hoping for a dramatic change to occur. Frank noted that he was once told by a pit boss that old playing cards have monkeys as the highest denomination cards.
