Online Blackjack News - Cherokees: Blackjack and other games will create more jobs
|
|
Lately, a request was submitted by the Eastern Cherokee Indians, to have blackjack, live poker and other kinds of games at Harrah's Cherokee casino in Cherokee North Carolina.
Their claim is that applying for Las Vegas-style games in the casino may result in 430 new job openings in the area, with a combined salary totaling $15.2 million. The tribesmen submitted their request, and will meet negotiators from the governor's office today to discuss their request.
The tribe's principal chief, Michell Hicks, reportedly claimed that in order to survive the struggle against other casinos on the Southeast, which provide accommodations and cheap airfare, the Cherokee casino has to expand its offerings to include new games, such as blackjack.
Since opening in 1997, the Cherokee casino have gained profits of about $155 million per year, half of which go to the tribe and the rest – to health care, education and cultural resources.
