Online Blackjack News - What’s to be done with the Blackjack Eighteen Hand?

When a player is dealt hands in blackjack, normally, they can be classified as favorable, less favorable and detrimental ones. 18 is well fitted to the last category, since if dealt on a regular basis, can push a blackjack player to the edge of despair.

Your 18 hand can appear in a variety of combinations. When you have a hand like 10/8, just give up! There is virtually nothing one can do about it. But there are other forms of 18 hand that might not be as hopeless.

If A/7, 4/2/A/A hands should befall you, go against the common belief and don’t stand. Your blackjack win is much dependant on the dealer’s up-card. So, in the A/7hand, if the dealer has a deuce through 8 as up-cards, or 3,4,5,6 up, don’t think twice and double down. Remember though that half the time you’ll be facing the dealer’s dangerous 9, 10 or Ace. Upon the encounter with such troublesome hands, you better hit. Such seemingly audacious moves as hitting all the way to a soft 19 or a hard 17 could, in fact, benefit your overall wagering, in spite of the occasional but imminent downfalls.

In the case of multi-card 18 (4/2/A/A), doubling down should be automatically dismissed, since you hold more than two cards. If the dealer shows a 9, 10 or Ace, you have no other choice but hit.
