Online Blackjack News - Blackjack is the last straw against Cherokee’s competitors
|
|
Harrah’s and Cherokee Casinos are once again in the headlines, prompted by the Gov. Mike Easley, the leader of the Cherokee Indians who suggested reviving the long forgotten negotiations on the North Carolina gambling statutes. His main request is to allow card games, such as blackjack, poker, craps etc, to be practiced at the Cherokee Casinos.
Casinos, in possession of the Eastern Band, are not allowed to cater Class III games such as blackjack, poker and others, under the guidelines of current law. They are restricted to video gambling machines and digital blackjack, since their opening in 1997.
A former principal chief, Dugan contended that the revenues are dipping since most of the players from the more prominent casino markets, such as Atlanta can take a flight to the Gulf Coast where blackjack, poker and other live card games are abundant, which would not take them longer than a drive to Cherokee. According to Dugan, it is the contention that drives the Cherkee’s Casinos to request the necessary law revision.
The Democracy North Carolina has analyzed the financial aspect of the matter and reported that for the past four years, the state has benefited from a steady flow of revenues donated by tribes, totaling to $1 million, which is as much as supplied by other state’s major corporate donors.
