Online Blackjack News - The evolution of Blackjack card counting device

In the 1970’s, the more liberal blackjack era, where bosses were not as knowledgeable about the blackjack card counting system as they are today, Ken Uston barged in with his team beating down the best of the Vegas casinos.

Ken, born in 1935, attended Yale at 16 and later proceeded to Harvard Business School to pursue a career in financing. He enjoyed a variety of jobs, but took a decision to quite all of them, to dedicate himself entirely to blackjack, a passionate hobby of his. He bonded with couple of friends and together they’ve learnt the basic blackjack card counting system. They decided to station a number of their team members around the blackjack table where several of them would be responsible for “count down” of decks of cards and others would make large bets. The counters, while making only minimal bets, would signal their “high rollers” mates when the odds are in player’s favor, so that they in turn, would wager very large bets and play until they are signaled otherwise, meaning when their favorable strike is over.

Ken and his team, won eventually $500,000 in Las Vegas, and even more in Europe, but when it all seemed too good to be true, they’ve encountered some troubles. The team was busted at one of the casinos. Though the lawyer did a good job, the lawsuits munched much of Ken’s bankroll.

Ken soon received a phone call from a gentleman who said he devised a computer, size of a pack of cigarettes who played a perfect blackjack. It was based on the binary code and processed the information through four buttons. The device was meant to send short or long vibrating signals to a player, telling him the best move for each given hand. The system was far from perfect, but inspired Ken who saw great potential in it to take upon its improvement. Ken produced a terrific blackjack training system for home computers in 1983 which was ahead of its time and then accepted a million dollar job in Europe as a computer programmer.
